Education
José holds a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from EP-USP, earned in 2023. He completed his B.Sc. in Electronic Engineering from Mackenzie Presbyterian University in 1998, laying the foundation for his expertise in telecommunications and complex data communication networks.
Experience
José has extensive professional experience, having worked for Huawei Technologies from 2001 to 2017 in various roles, including project management and data communication product line management. His work focused on implementing and operating large-scale communication projects across Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, and Mexico. He is currently an associate researcher with the Science and Technology Center (CCT) and the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), contributing to various multidisciplinary initiatives, including OpenCare5G.
Research Focus
José’s research interests center around the development of 5G/B5G, Internet of Things (IoT), Network Function Virtualization (NFV), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN), and distributed cloud computing. His innovative research on the OpenCare5G project focuses on the application of advanced telecommunications systems to improve access to healthcare services and reduce carbon footprints in the medical sector.

José has co-authored several books and journal articles in prestigious international journals, contributing to the fields of 5G and telecommunications. His work on the OpenCare5G project has been widely recognized for its impact on healthcare and digital services in Brazil. He has also served as an editorial appointee for the journal Computer Communications and actively collaborates with the Asia Open RAN Academy.

José has contributed to numerous high-impact research publications, including articles in journals like Applied Sciences and Sensors, and conference proceedings such as the ICTC and EFITA Congress. His doctoral thesis, titled 5G-Transversal, explored a hierarchical framework for federated orchestration of 5G networks. He has also published books, such as Evaluating the performance of a simulated softwarized agricultural wireless sensor network in collaboration with Springer International Publishing.
